10 new art shows in India we’re excited about this July

Artists are not just painters or sculptors. At many times, they change their role, from storytellers to pickers, from dreamers to practitioners. This show aims to shed light on viewers on what it takes to be an artist, to present the entire artistic creation process. Colorized by Vaidehi Gohil and Sonakshi Bhandari, the exhibition presents works by the 18 artists represented by the gallery, notably Areez Katki, Vishwa Shroff, Rithika Merchant, Ronny Sen, Pratap Morey, Sameer Kulavoor and Saubiya Chashmawala, among others. Each of their creations is displayed with research documents, notes, work tools and all other objects included in their artistic process, which allows an intriguing and engaging showcase.

“Farewell Party”, 2004

The work of this artist born in Kerala is so captivating that the gallery chose to represent him first when he did not even have physical space to present his art. A founding member of the Indian Radical Painters and Sculptors Association, VN Jyothi Basu has always worked in his own terms, floating between being a painter and disappearing in nothingness every time he wants. Discover this aberrant value of the world of art through works exhibited at Galerie Mirchandani + Space by Delhi de Steinruecke, which presents its paintings from the 1990s and beyond, including charcoal drawings and its emblematic oil painting Farewell (2004).
