‘5 times raped’: Kenai migrants exploited in Saudi, racism- Amnesty reports

Amnesty International said in a report on Tuesday, May 13 that Kenai domestic workers in Saudi Arabia have to face imprisonment, racism and sometimes rape. Their working conditions are so insulting that they often become similar to “forced labor and human trafficking”. This report was released when US President Donald Trump is scheduled to reach Riyadh for the official visit.
This NGO associated with human rights has given details of cruel conditions faced by more than 70 women working as domestic workers in Saudi Arabia. The report said, “They suffered inhuman behavior including terrible life conditions and sexual, oral and physical attacks. Employers (owners) usually confiscate their passports and phones and sometimes stop their salary.”
Amnesty said that the Kenai government was also involved in exploitation. Irungu Hoton, executive director of Amnesty International Kenya, said, “The Kenai government is actively encouraging labor migration (going abroad for labor work), and Saudi Arabia officials claim that they have presented labor rights corrections .. Still, there is shocking level racism and exploitation of domestic workers behind the bandh doors.
Many women reported incidents of sexual violence. These include a woman from whom the husband has raped five times. Amnesty described “systemic racism” in behavior towards Kenyan people, often called “animals” and “monkey” by household members. According to the data given by Amnesty, Saudi Arabia has about four million domestic workers, all of which are from foreign countries, including 150,000 from Kenya. Amnesty said, its systems have been improved in recent years, but “strict restrictions” have remained. The NGO said that it has not received any answer to the questions sent to Saudi and Kenyan officials.
