Kenya: Two boys had to keep 5000 ants expensive, know what punishment was received

The court has also given the option to the minors to stay in jail for 12 months for not paying the fine. 12 months imprisonment for violation of wildlife laws is a maximum punishment.

Smuggling was to be done in Europe-Asia markets

Officials said ants were recovered from the boys and it is believed that they were to be smuggled into European and Asian markets, barley has become a trend of smuggling of less known wildlife species in the current era. Belgian -based Lornoy David and Seppe Lodevisks were arrested on April 5 from a ‘Guest House’ and 5,000 ants were recovered from them. Both boys are 19 years old.

Why was so much fine

Officials said that both of them were framed on April 15. Kenya Wildlife Service earlier reported that both boys were involved in smuggling ants in Europe and Asia markets. According to the agency, both have been fined so much because the recovered ants also include an ant species named ‘Mesor Safelots’, which is a specific, large and red ant found in East Africa.
