Russia responsible for killing flight MH17 11 years ago- UN’s decision, 298 people were killed

In July 2014, Russia was responsible for demolishing the Malaysia Airlines flight, flying over Eastern Ukraine. This decision has been pronounced by the United Nations Aviation Agency. This passenger flight was killed by a Russian -made missile. All 298 people aboard the flight were killed. However, Russia has always denied any responsibility for an air accident.
According to the BBC report on Monday, the UN Council of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) voted that Russia failed to uphold its obligations under the International Air Act. This law says that countries need to “avoid the use of weapons against civilian aircraft flying”.
According to the report, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was going from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. Meanwhile, the plane crashed in the Donbas region of Ukraine during a conflict between pro -Russia rebels and Ukrainian forces. Most passengers and crews, 196 people, were from the Netherlands. The aircraft also had 38 people from Australia, 10 British citizens, as well as Belgium and Malaysian citizens.
The case was brought to the United Nations in 2022 by the Australian and Dutch governments, who welcomed the ICAO’s decision. Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong said in a statement, “We call Russia to eventually face their responsibility for this terrible act of violence and compensate for their disgusting conduct.” At the same time, Dutch Foreign Minister, Casper Weldcamp said that it is “an important step towards establishing the truth and gaining justice and accountability”.
“It gives a clear message to the international community,” he said: “Countries cannot violate international law without any punishment.” Significantly, in 2022, a Dutch court ruled that the aircraft was killed by a Russian-controlled group. The court convicted two Russians and a Moscow supporter Ukrainian citizen of murder in his absence.
