After Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten 73 runs, Mumbai Indians crushed Delhi Capitals by 59 runs at their home ground on the basis of Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner’s sharp bowling and got the playoff ticket of IPL 2025. Mumbai is the last team to reach the playoffs. Prior to them, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab have qualified for Kings knockout stage. At the same time, with this defeat, Delhi Capitals has been out of the race of playoffs. Now Gujarat, Bengaluru and Punjab have an interesting race for the top-2.

Battle between three teams for top-2 location

Teams, who are in the first two places in the IPA points table, play directly qualifiers, so they have two opportunities to reach the finals. All teams try to finish in these two places. This time, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings are the first two places. Mumbai is also in the race, but it will also have to depend on the results of other teams.

Gujarat Titans can reach a maximum of 22 digits. Two of his matches- Lucknow on 22 May and Chennai on 25 May. Whereas Bangalore which can reach a maximum of 21 digits, has the same number of matches left. Bengaluru will play its next match against Hyderabad on 23 May and Lucknow on 27 May. While Punjab Kings are to play against Delhi Capitals on 24 May and Mumbai Indians on 26 May. These three teams have performed strongly throughout the season, so it will be interesting to see which team finishes the first two places in the points table.

Mumbai Indians come back with great comeback

Mumbai Indians started very poorly in IPL 2025. The team led by Hardik Pandya had won only one in their first five matches, but then he made a strong comeback and won seven of their last 8 matches and qualified for the playoffs. Five -time champion Mumbai has reached the 11th time in the playoffs and it will probably play the eliminator.

If Mumbai Indians will have to finish in the top-2, then they will have to win their last match against Punjab Kings. Apart from this, he will have to expect that Delhi Capitals defeat Punjab Kings in their last match and defeat Bangalore in their last match. If this happens, Bangalore and Punjab will be limited to 17-17 points and Mumbai will reach the top-2 with 18 points. But as Punjab and Bengaluru have performed, it is very less likely.
