The best bob cut for your face shape, according to a hairstylist

Péré, powerful and endless adaptable – the Bob Cup has a main moment in 2025. Italian variations and sirens with cowgirl riffs and butterflies, there is a version for each atmosphere. And each celebrity tried: Tara Sotaria, Zendaya, Shraddha Kapoor, Kendall Jenner. But with so many interpretations, how do you choose a bob that really works for your face?

To cut the noise, we turned to one of the most reliable hairstyles in Paris, Delphine Courteille, for expert advice. Here is its catch.

Should you get a bob cut?

The Bob has dominated the beauty scene for over a year. It was carried by celebrities, splashed on major shoots, reinterpreted by hairdressers and largely adopted by the public. It is clean, charismatic and offers the type of radical transformation that makes him feel almost cinematographic.

But is that suitable for everyone? Courteille thinks that the bob is “universal”, but with a warning: it must be adapted to the characteristics of the individual. This includes the shape of the face, the jaw, the length of the neck, the hair, the nose and even the shape of the eyes. These elements influence the length and movement of the cut, whether it is a mini bob like Angèle, a longer version or something more ruffled.

It compares it to architecture: the bob can be adapted to the natural shape of hair, helping to balance or even compensate for certain features. When it is well done, it can bring a definition and a personality to the face, especially when associated with details like a fringe.

The right bob cut for the shape of your face, according to Delphine Courteille

Courteille offers its advice to customize the cut to adapt to each type of face – from the round to the oval, square with a heart -shaped.

Round face

“In my opinion, the most important thing is to add volume in the jaw, never on the cheeks. A central part – or slightly blurred – can help break the facial symmetry. Avoid blunt fringes; a long curtain fringe is more flattering because it softens cheekbones. I usually recommend a long slightly inclined bob that falls under the jawline.”

Square face

“To soften the features, I like a wavy and slightly ruffled bob. He adds movement and a little edge. I avoid pointed lines to keep the look soft and rounded. A subtle asymmetry helps soften a strong jaw, therefore a gently inclined Bob cut that rests along the lower face work. I cut.

Oval face

“Everything happens! With more cheeks through the cheeks, you can remove a micro-bob, a central part, a fringe-really, everything works. The oval faces are incredibly versatile. It is best not to be too short.

Heart -shaped face

“Since this facial form tends to be longer across, it is important to break this verticality. A shorter bob with a volume on the sides helps to balance the proportions. A curtain bang can also work well to visually shorten the face.

Even if vintage dryers and longer lengths become popular in the salons, Delphine Courteille does not see the bob losing steam anytime soon. She notes that it is still part of the trend cycle and not only for women. “It’s even men,” she said, pointing to the Spring-Summer 2026 show by Pharrell Williams Louis Vuitton. “There is no risk that the bob will come out of date this winter.”
