Severe tremors felt in the Caribbean Sea, tsunami warning continues in Puerto Rico

7.6 Earthquake tremors were felt in Caribbon C on Saturday evening at Southwest, North of Honduras and Cayman Island. The US Geological Survey gave this information. The USGS said that the earthquake, which came around the eastern time at 6:23 pm, was at a depth of 10 km. The USGS stated that it came due to “strike slip faulting in the shallow layer near the border between North America and the Caribbean plates.

Shortly after the earthquake, the U.S. The tsunami warning system has issued a tsunami warning for Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands. Both these places come in the American region. It is also said that sea level fluctuations and strong sea currents, beaches, ports and coastal water can pose a threat. The warning states whether the tsunami has arisen or not, the sea level reading is not yet available to confirm or evaluate it and the agency will update on getting more information.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that “dangerous tsunami waves” can affect coastal areas within 620 miles from the center of the earthquake, including Keman Island, Jamaica, Cuba, Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Bahamas, Costa Rica, Belize, Haiti, Panama and Guatemala are included.

Later, the American National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicted tsunami waves 1 to 3 meters above the tide level in parts of the Cuba coast, while the Honduras and the Ceman Islands have a small wave of 0.3 to 1 meter for the islands. It has been forecast. Initially after issuing a tsunami warning to more than a dozen countries, American agencies later canceled most of the warnings, but said “there may be a slight change in the sea level.”
