There is good news for the relatives of Neelam Shinde, a 35 -year -old student who went into a coma after a road accident on 14 February in the US. America is considering giving emergency visas to their families so that they can go to the hospital in California and meet them. Sources have given this information to NDTV on the afternoon of Thursday, 27 February.

  1. The US Division of the Ministry of External Affairs of India had approached the US to formally raise the issue and seek assistance. Sources said that travel permits are usually given quickly for such an emergency. However, it is not clear what caused the delay in this case.
  2. Neelam Shinde, who was studying at California State University, was done on February 14 when a four -wheeler car crushed her from behind. He suffered serious injuries including fractures.
  3. His family applied for a visa 48 hours later, but the application has been pending since then. Neelam Shinde’s uncle Kadam Shinde told NDTV that he is unable to book because the next slot is for next year.
  4. The family said that Neelam’s two hands and both legs were fractured in the accident. Brain surgery had to be done in emergency. He is in a coma since then.
  5. On February 16, the university has said in a statement that Neelam is in ICU in critical condition. The university has also appealed for the family travel permit.
  6. The university wrote, “Pacent’s father should assist UC Davis Medical Center Care Team in making medical decisions.”
  7. Sources told NDTV that the US gives ‘Emergency’ visa in the event of a family member being severely ill or died. This requires a written record from a doctor. Although emergency visa is limited slots for applications.
