The US is about to start a direct conversation with Iran on its nuclear program. US President Donald Trump made this shocking announcement during a White House meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Speaking on Monday, April 7 at the Oval Office, Trump said that he is expected to reach an agreement with Tehran. But at the same time he warned that if the conversation failed, the Islamic Republic will be in the “big danger”.
A few hours after Trump spoke, Tehran confirmed that this discussion was to be held with the US on Saturday in Oman, but insisted that it would be “indirect” dialogue instead of direct talks. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on the social media platform X, “Iran and America will meet in Oman on Saturday for indirect high level talks.”
He said, “This is an opportunity as it is, it is also an exam .. The ball is in America’s court.”
Trump accepted the conversation with Iran
Trump told reporters after the meeting at the Oval Office, “We are dealing with Iranians, we have a very big meeting on Saturday and we are dealing directly to them.” Trump did not say where the conversation would take place, but he insisted that surrogates will not be included in it and it will be at almost the highest level.
Significantly, the US President had pulled out of such a deal with Iran during his first President’s tenure in 2018. During the tenure of Barack Obama, the US signed a deal with Iran on a nuclear program, which is known as Joint Comprehensive Action Plan. According to that deal, Iran had to stop its uranium enrichment activities and in return it was relieved from American sanctions. Trump rejected the deal and resorted to the policy of “maximum pressure” which tightened the economic sanctions.
There has been a lot of speculation that if there is no new agreement, then with the help of American, Israel may attack Iran’s nuclear facilities.
Announcement of conversation on one side- threatening on one side .. What do Trump want?
On the one hand, Trump is announcing direct talks for a new deal with Iran, on the other hand, he is also seen threatening. He said, “I think if the talks with Iran are not successful, Iran will be in great danger. I hate to say this, there is a big danger, because they cannot have nuclear weapons.”
It is not that America is talking only on its nuclear program with Iran. Officials have said that Russia, China and Iran are going to talk on this issue in Moscow on Tuesday.
Trump has probably realized the power of Iran and wants to make a deal before getting out of hand. Critics say that Iran has accelerated its nuclear program and now it is closer than before making the bomb. The previous President Biden’s efforts to revive Obama’s deal had failed.
Keep in mind that there is no direct diplomatic relationship between Iran and America since 1980. In 1980, the rebels attacked the US embassy in Tehran and held 53 diplomats hostage for 444 days, after which the ties were broken.
Netanyahu has come to take relief from Trump’s tariff
Netanyahu has reached America personally to plead for relief from the American tariff who shook the world. He is the first leader in the world to do so. The Israeli Prime Minister has promised to eliminate trade deficit between the two countries and also to end the trade “obstacles”.
Trump has refused to exempt Israel from his tariff to the biggest beneficiary of American military assistance. It has a tariff of 17 percent. Trump has clearly stated that America has a big trade deficit with Israel.
