Lahore:
Pakistan’s FM radio centers stopped broadcasting Indian songs on Thursday. This step has been taken amid tension between Pakistan and India over the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed.
Pakistan Broadcasting Association (PBA) general secretary Shakeel Masood said, “PBA has stopped broadcasting Indian songs from Pakistani FM radio centers across the country with immediate effect.” Songs of great singers like Indian songs, especially Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Mukesh are popular among Pakistanis and are played per day at FM radio centers here.
Pakistan Information Minister Atta Tarar has appreciated the decision of PBA. In a letter to PBA, Tarar said, “The patriotic step of PBA is extremely commendable and it shows the collective feeling of the whole country.”
He said that banning Indian songs at Pakistan’s FM centers shows that “we are all united to promote national unity and support the basic values in such difficult times”.
