According to ARY News, a polio virus has been found in the sewage water sample deposited from 18 districts across Pakistan.

According to ARY News, Pakistan’s National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) had submitted samples for polio from April 7 to 17, with many places revealed the presence of Wilde Polioerus type 1 (WPV1) in sewage samples.

NEOC confirmed that the sewage samples of four provinces showed symptoms of contemporary (contaminant). It was told that positive samples of polio have been found from three districts of Balochistan, six in Sindh, six from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and two districts of Punjab. It was also reported that the polio virus was also found in the sewage sample of the federal region of the capital Islamabad.

According to NEOC, in 2025 alone, there have been eight cases of polio virus in the country. Ary News said that a total of 74 cases of polio were reported in Pakistan last year.

Why polio is dangerous

Polio is a crippling disease that has no cure. To give children high immunity against this disease, it is necessary to complete several doses of oral polio vaccine and regular vaccination programs for all children under five years of age.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), polio is a highly infectious disease caused by viruses. The virus spreads in a person-to-person. Polio can lead to paralysis and even death, which is not available. However, vaccination is the most effective way to protect children from this serious disease.
