Randeep gularia on covid-19 cases: In many countries of the world including India, there is a surge in cases of corona infection. This has created an atmosphere of fear among the people. Corona infection had reduced considerably in the last few years, which is once again growing rapidly. New variants of Kovid are making people their victims. Former Delhi AIIMS director Dr. Randeep Guleria has expressed his opinion on the increasing cases of Kovid. He told that what steps should be taken to avoid this infection and what can be the situation in the coming time.

Former Delhi AIIMS director Dr. Randeep Guleria told a private news channel Currently, cases of covid infection are increasing due to JN.1 variants. This variant was first seen in August 2023 and it is a sub-variant of Omikron Lenez. The spike of this variant is spreading rapidly due to mutation in protein. This immune spreads infection through escape mechanism. However, this variant is not very fatal and its symptoms are mild. Symptoms like fever, cough, sore throat, cold and nose are seen in patients infected with JN.1 variants.

According to Dr. Guleria, the JN.1 variant causes mild disease in most cases, but it can be dangerous for some people, people suffering from operbids like elderly, diabetes or heart disease and people with weak immune system can come under the grip of this variant. Such people should try to avoid covid infection and follow the corona protocols to control the covid infection. The situation in India is currently under control, but the surveillance of new variants is necessary. It has to be seen further how much this variant will spread and it is necessary to prepare in advance to avoid any difficult situation.

Former AIIMS director said that the current Kovid-19 vaccine provides protection against JN.1 variants based on the data available so far. However, this vaccine does not completely stop infection, as mutations are present in the variant. The vaccine reduces the seriousness of Kovid and the risk of hospitalization or death. Continuous mutations in the virus can reduce the effectiveness of chronic vaccine. Currently, monitoring of new variants of Korona is necessary and it is a matter to see how much infection it will spread in the coming time and how fatal it can be.

According to Dr. Guleria, there is no need to fear or panic at the moment, but people should be vigilant. Avoid going to crowded places and wear masks while leaving the house. Follow social distribution and take care of hands cleanliness. So far, JN.1 variants have not seen much increase in hospitalization or death cases due to the variant, which is a good sign. Nevertheless, continuous monitoring is necessary in areas where cases are more or health resources are limited. Apart from this, people struggling with serious diseases should avoid Kovid.

The expert said that now in addition to the vaccine, there are many types of antiviral medicines available for the treatment of Kovid, which can provide relief from the flu with Kovid. These drugs are effective against the virus and are contributing to reducing mortality compared to the early stages of epidemic. Antiviral drugs can help reduce the severity of infection and improve recovery, especially for high risk patients. If the symptoms of Kovid are similar to other infections, so if you see symptoms like cough, cold or fever, then get the kovid test done.
