Karun Nair: There are many expectations from Karun Nair in England
Bengaluru:
Karun Nair wrote on his social media handle on 10 December 2022, ‘Dear cricket give me another chance.’ And on 24 May 2025, he got an answer from cricket, ‘Dear Karun, you will get another chance.’ Thirty -three -year -old Nair has been selected in the 18 -member Indian team for the tour of England next month, which will give him a chance to give a new twist to his career after eight years. Thirty -three -year -old Nair played his last Test match for India in 2017. He was dropped from the team soon after becoming a player to score a second triple century from India.
Nair left such an effect in England
The world around him felt that all expectations were over, but Nair did not give up expectation of return. This hopes forced him to return to ways to play cricket and joining the Northamptonshire team in English County Cricket was the first wise move towards this. Nair scored 249 runs in three matches for Northamptonshire in 2023 at an average of 83, including a century against the last champion Sarre. A year later, Nair scored 487 runs in seven matches at an average of 49, including a century against Glamorgan for his county team. But these runs were not enough to return to the national level but were enough to increase their confidence. Their said last year, ‘Everyone knows, it is difficult for Indian batsmen to go to England and score runs. So I have learned a lot about myself as a batsman. I have learned about finding ways to score runs and believe in myself.
Time changed to join Vidarbha
But the real change in his career came out of the Karnataka team and came with coming to Vidarbha because it was difficult to make a place in the final XI in his former team. Vidarbha was looking for an experienced player in his batting order at that time and he happily welcomed Nair. The right -handed player also did not disappoint his new team and scored 690 runs in 10 matches with the help of two centuries and three half -centuries.
Stormy performance in Vijay Hazare
Nair scored 863 runs with the help of four centuries at an average of 54 in nine matches, taking one more step up in 2024-25 seasons. Then this Bangalore batsman scored 779 runs in seven matches in seven matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy ODI tournament with his average of 389.50. Then the issue of his selection in the Indian team became the subject of debate across the country.
