Denims, skinny dupattas and fringe skirts are leading Indian couture’s cool girl makeover
It would seem that Indian designers have collectively decided to think beyond the Lehenga “Can-Barely-Walk-in” during this season of Hyundai India Couture Week 2025 in association with Reliance Brands, an initiative by FDCI. In a country where nuptial fashion leads to results for most design houses, wedding clothes and sewing have long been synonymous. But as the consumer evolves, the canvas too – and what we saw on the track was a quiet rebirth.
Yes, the Saris and the Shararas remained – high, proud and shameless opulent – but this time, they shared the spotlight with silhouettes that looked beyond the bride. Think of kaftans with complex embroidery, mini dresses with a detailed cut, corsets with everything and combinations for everyone. It’s a Vogue-APPROVIED, an overview of the out -of -competition looks that made our sewing list for 2025.
Rahul Mishra
Rahul Mishra opened the sewing season with “becoming love” – an extension of its Paris showcase, where the Mughal miniatures met Monet and Klimt. A mini-version of the Cardi B viral bustier dress made the cut, but the real stars were sculptural 3D creations of Mishra. Like this embroidered column dress, with its own architectural frame. Not for the weakness of fashion, but perfect for those who revel in the pure joy of dressing.
