EXCLUSIVE: Simi Garewal makes her Cannes Film Festival debut in a custom ivory ensemble by Karleo
LV: Sim is known as The Lady in White, and Karleo is a brand specializing in white wedding dresses. It was a match made in paradise. We discussed different shades of white for hours, ranging from egg shells, ivory, bone white, cream and champagne, etc. We also like to discuss different types of shine. Shine like diamonds, shines like metal and shines like the mirror. We remember very well that the outfits created for her have been shaded in different shades of coffee to obtain a natural shade of SIMA cream. She worn it for a red carpet event in Australia. We have always been fans of its sense of style and elegance.
VI: Simi Garewal is known for its style and frank conversations. She was rebellious in some respects and does not hesitate to experiment. Tell us about your approach when you design something for her. Did his audacity on the screen translate her fashion choices?
LV: The best part of Sim is his knowledge of fabrics and his references to the charm of the old world. Which, for designers like us, is a dream come true. We love a good story to complete fashion. And there are many when you work with Simi. In addition, being apart generations makes things more interesting. It is the contrast of the classic with the modern which keeps things fresh and daring in many ways in terms of fashion. We have experienced the styles of construction, different types of corsets, shoulders, etc., and many fabric textures to improve the lack of color. All these elements were an important part of our design process for Simi Garewal.
VI: Simi Garewal should make its debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. What was the first thought that came to your mind for its ensemble?
LV: It was a real honor. Despite knowing it, we knew that it should be different. Therefore, this is the first time that similar of a customer in a celebrity with whom we are so eager to collaborate. We therefore invited us to our studio and have shown him all our design processes directly from our works of art to our embroidery samples to our construction techniques. This gave him even more confidence than our aesthetics will correspond to her specific vision of this particular event, which she goes for the first time. Immediately, she took the sketch cushion and removed a very rough sketch from what she wanted. After explaining to us in detail, Karan and Leon took on us to let it be similar, when he became our duty to give life to his vision in the best possible way.
