First Look: Inside Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s maximalist outpost at Jio World Plaza, Mumbai

Patola Patterns in Gold Leafing Dance on the walls of the last store in Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla in Jio World Plaza, Mumbai, which holds archive pieces 37 years ago, as well as new creations. “The store has a hand -made surrealist peacock exhibition in” Shola “which also presents Gota flowers flowering among the bird feathers,” says Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla in an exclusive conversation with Vogue India before their opening this evening.

Each of their brick and mortar stores echoes a different palette, revealing several stories and creating a mood painting in the walls. In Mumbai, they embody nostalgia. “We used a mixture of embossing, mattress, sculpture and cutting techniques made by hand to give the store a museum. Even the walls have an AABLA work made by hand and the chairs in our meeting room are made with Ajrak printed by hand, ”adds Abu Jani and Sandep Khosla.

After collaborating for 39 years, if you think that creative differences are not common, think again. “There is a saying that if two people agree on everything, one of them is not necessary. Abu and I are as different as chalk and cheese, but together, we will debate and dream. Disagreement is a natural part of the process … What matters is in the end, we are both satisfied with what we co-created.”
