GGTW vs UPW: Captain Ashlegh Gardner’s half -century, Gujarat gives up UP Warriors

Gujarat giant defeated UP Warriors by six wickets on Sunday in the Women’s Premier League on the basis of captain Ashley Gardner’s all -round performance. Gardner took two wickets for 39 runs and then scored 52 runs in 32 balls. This is his second consecutive half -century on which Gujarat registered the first win in the third season. He was defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match. While bowling first, the Gujarat giant stopped UP Warriors for nine wickets with the help of young spinner Priya Mishra’s three wickets. Mishra took three wickets for 25 runs in four overs, then the captain took 39 runs and Deendra Dotin took two wickets for 34 runs. Kashvi Gautam got one wicket.

Chasing a target of 144 runs for victory, Gujarat lost two wickets for 22 runs. UP Warriors handed over the ball to the spinners from both ends and Gujarat openers Beth Muni and De Hemlata were dismissed cheaply. Gardner then shared a 55 -run partnership in 42 balls with Laura Volwart (22). Gardner removed Kranti Gaur with two fours and removed the pressure. After this, he hit two sixes to Syima Thakor. Volwart also hit a six and scored 20 runs in that over. Gardner hit five fours and three sixes in his innings. She became a victim of Tahlia Macgra in the 12th over.

After this, Harleen Deol (34) and Dotin (33) brought Gujarat to victory with two overs. Earlier, captain Deepti Sharma scored 39 runs in 27 balls for UP Warriors while Uma Chhetri contributed 24 and Shweta Sehrawat contributed 16 runs. Alana King (19) and Cyima Thakor (15) scored 26 runs in 13 balls. Kiran Navgire and Vrinda Dinesh played some good shots but Dotin and Gardner dismissed him cheaply. In the third over, UP Warriors score was 22 runs for two wickets. Navagire was lbw by Dotin while Dinesh was bolded by Gardner

Chhetri and Deepti tried to handle the innings but the Gujarat bowlers bowled very economical. The score in the powerplay was 41 runs for two wickets. Dotin broke his 50 -run partnership in 43 balls when he dismissed Chhetri. After this Mishra took two wickets in three balls. He sent Tahlia McGrag and Grace Harris of Australia to the pavilion. UP’s score was 78 runs for five wickets in the 11th over. Sehrawat and Deepti tried to come back but Gardner caught a brilliant catch and sent Deepti to the pavilion.
