Going to India Art Fair? Director Jaya Asokan recommends 9 artists you cannot miss

The stories of the natural world of our planet are at the heart of the captivating work of Theuerkauf, which will be seen in a solo stand of Kynkyny Art Gallery in India Art Fair. Raised in the hilly tropical forests of Wayanad in Kerala, the artist worked in the field of conservation for many years, and now only uses natural materials in his work, such as the branch or the branches of A deceased tree. Theuerkauf notes that for him, making art is very physical, requiring a commitment from his whole body with the earth he lives. This is reflected in his works, which start from climbing, walking and observation and move towards the collection, deliberation and creation. The complex work of the assembly of vivid thorns is also simultaneously a physical and mental exercise, and it writes: “The sharpness of thorns makes the consequence of a particularly immediate and clear inattention, and I appreciate the meditative quality that comes with The concentration required for weaving and lock them together.

Hylozoic / Desires (H / D), Himali Singh Care and David Tapper’s Artist Duo, explores the different facets of salt – its political history, its spiritual resonances and its chemical properties as an artistic medium – in a special film in first India Art Fair entitled Halomancy hedge. The film tells the story of the “big cover of India”, a long barrier maintained by the British Inland Customs Office in the 19th century to prevent the free movement of salt and to enforce a salt tax. In the film, Himali Singh Care plays the character of Mayalee, a courtesan in Sambhar, Rajasthan, who refused colonial attempts to deny his traditional salt payment right. The film is co-communized by Sharjah Biennale 16 and Tate Britain, and supported by India Art Fair and Jaiveer Johal, through the Avtar Foundation for the Arts.
