Google Layoffs: Google trimmed hundreds of employees from Android, Pixel and Chrome team: Report

New Delhi:
Tech giant Google has trimmed hundreds of employees from its platform and device division. According to reports, this team used to work for Android software, pixel phone and chrome browser. This pruning has been done at a time when Google proposed to the employees of the same unit voluntarily quit the job in January this year.
According to ‘The Information’ report, Google spokesperson has confirmed that after the merger of its platform and device teams last year, the company is working more efficiently and fast. The report said, “Under this effort, it has cut some jobs besides the earlier voluntary exit program.”
The company said, “Although the exact number of affected roles has not been disclosed, the move reflects Google’s widespread strategy to streamline operations and reduce expenses.”
Like many other tech veterans, the company is reviewing its team structures in view of the changing business needs and market conditions. This development has happened at a time when many global companies including Amazon, Intel and Goldman Sachs are also cutting into jobs.
According to the earlier reports, Amazon is planning to cut around 14,000 managerial posts to save $ 3 billion annually, while Intel is preparing for large restructuring after significant financial losses in 2024. With a rapid increase in adoption of AI, companies are focusing on rapid cost adaptation and automation, which is cutting jobs in various fields.
A report earlier indicated that Goldman Sachs is also preparing to cut jobs, with a plan to cut its employees 3-5 percent after the annual performance review. Bank of America has recently abolished around 150 junior bankers posts, although most of the affected employees have been given roles outside investment banking. With uncertainty about global economic conditions, more firms can do this in the coming months.
