Government buying arhar dal on 100 percent MSP, 2.56 lakh farmers got benefit

Arhar is being procured by the central government on the minimum support price (MSP) through central agencies like NAFED and NCCF in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana and a total of 3.92 lakh metric tonnes of crops have been purchased in these states till 22 April, which has benefited 2,56,517 farmers. This information was given in a statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on Wednesday.
Promotion of pulses production
In order to encourage farmers contributing to increasing domestic production of pulses and reduce dependence on imports, the government has approved 100 percent purchase of arhar, urad and lentils on MSP under the Price Support Scheme for 2024-25.
The statement said that the central government is committed to purchase 100 percent of the pigeonpea from farmers on MSP through central nodal agencies like NAFED and NCCF.

Government will buy 100 percent MSP
The government has also announced in the budget 2025 that to achieve self-sufficiency in pulses in the country, 100 percent of the production of arhar, urad and lentils will be purchased for four years by central nodal agencies, Nafed and NCCF for four years by 2028-29.
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan approved the purchase of a total of 13.22 lakh MT (LMT) arhar in the states of Kharif 2024-25 seasons under the Price Support Scheme in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
The statement said that the Agriculture Minister has extended the procurement period in Andhra Pradesh to the 22nd of next month in the interest of farmers.
