Dharavi redevelopment project: The redevelopment project of Dharavi in ​​Mumbai, known as Asia’s biggest slum, is working with Dharavi RedeveloPment Project. The Dharavi Redevelopment Project achieved a major achievement by completing the door-to-door survey of more than 53,000 houses. Which is the highest in the history of Mumbai Slum Rehabilitation Authority Sra. On Thursday, CEO SVR Srinivas of Dharavi Redevelopment Project (DRP) spoke to the media in Mumbai and appealed to all the Dharavikars to participate in the survey so that no one would be deprived of the housing scheme.

Numbering of 85,000 slums complete

According to the new survey data, the numbering for 85,000 slums has been completed. While a survey has been done from house to house in about 53,000 slums. It is believed that about 1.5 lakh slums of Asia’s largest slum Dharavi will be rehabilitated.

These facilities will be in Dharavi

According to tender terms, the eligible Dharavikars will be rehabilitated within Dharavi, while ineligible residents will be shifted to modern townships with modern facilities within the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) within a 10 km radius outside Dharavi. Residents will be placed in a well -employed township, which will have appropriate facilities such as wide roads, green places and proper water and sewage systems etc.

Under the Dharavi redevelopment project, a special identity number is being given to every house, shop, educational and religious institute through survey. Based on this survey, redevelopment of Dharavi will be planned and rehabilitation eligibility will be fixed on the basis of this.

Committee constituted for issues related to religious places

The redevelopment project has formed a committee to solve issues related to religious places within Dharavi. This committee will focus on transferring or regularizing illegal religious places within the Dharavi redevelopment project. Survey and rehabilitation of religious structures is a social challenge, so this committee has been formed, including deputy collector, retired judges.

About 3 rounds of meetings have been held with the committee. When these religious places were built, how much is the total area, the committee will focus on how the survey and rehabilitation is complete. It is being told that there are more than 300 religious places in Dharavi, including many unauthorized sites.

Problems coming in survey in areas like social city, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar

In the survey, some challenges have come up in some areas like social city of Dharavi, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, where the survey team has returned 2-3 times from these houses. Some residents here are abstaining from giving papers to join the survey, so there are houses in which the people living are out of the city.

Eligible residents will get 350 square feet of flats

Under the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, the eligible residents of Dharavi will get 350 square feet of flats. These flats are 17% larger than flats in slum redevelopment projects. Which will also have kitchens and bathrooms.

The survey under the leadership of the state government

The government survey in Dharavi is going on under the leadership of the state government. The survey team first does Reiki. Then the work of measuring the exact distance on the surface is being done by Lidar, remote sensing method. With this, 3D models of Dharavi’s terrain, structures, and routes are being prepared and ‘Digital Twin’ i.e. virtual replica is being made.

After the base map is ready, the survey team is numbering the Dharavi access structures and then the residents are asked for their papers during the digital survey, then scanned and returned them. The process is being done by the government from conducting the survey to the receipt.

The door-to-door survey is being held in Dharavi

  • This survey will prepare a master plan for redevelopment of Dharavi.
  • It will cost about Rs 2-3 lakh crore to complete the project.
  • Only about 25,000 crore is expected to be spent in the rehabilitation of people.

First phase work started on railway land parcel in Matunga

Here in Matunga West, 6.4 acres of railway land is preparing for the beginning of the first phase on the parcel. This land is a part of 45 acres of land which has been sought from the authority for various proceedings of the project. NMDPL has already paid Rs 1,000 crore to the Railways for 45 acres of land and an additional Rs 2,800 crore will also be paid through minimum revenue distribution from the income of Adani Dharavi Slum Redevelopment Project.

It is one of the most congested areas of Mumbai with a population density of 227,136 per square kilometer. The project, spread over a total of 600 acres, aims to rehabilitate more than one million dharavi residents, integrating modern commercial development. This project is a joint project of the state government and Adani Group. The unit of Adani Group has an 80% stake in NMDPL and the Government of Maharashtra has the remaining 20% ​​stake.

In November 2022, Real Estate Development Company Adani Properties emerged as the most bidding company to gain the rights of redevelopment of Slum. It was achieved with a bid of Rs 5,069 crore.
