How do you know if the matcha you are drinking is healthy? This is what nutritionists say

He feels like everyone is drinking matcha these days. Each time I open Instagram, someone is busy whipping a cup. I asked a nutritionist friend if he really had real advantages, and she said it was an excellent alternative to coffee for an energy boost.

“Matcha gives you sustained energy because it comes from a concentrated form of green tea,” said nutritionist Mariana Perez Trejo, who drinks it regularly. “Coffee causes a net energy peak – that’s why you feel like you need a cup after the cup just to continue.”

When she told me that it helps fatigue, I was intrigued. But, as she warned, the quality of Matcha really counts. “If it is not of high quality, you miss most of its advantages.”

So I decided to dig more deeply – to take a look at the experts, to determine what makes matcha in fact (or not) and to understand its advantages.

What are the advantages of Matcha?

Matcha, in itself, is ideal for your health. “Green tea in the form of a powder allows you to consume the whole leaf, where all its advantages are concentrated,” explains the food coach Giovanna Alva. “One of its greatest advantages is its high antioxidant content, in particular the EGCG (Gallatte de l’épigallocatechine), which is known to combat cellular aging and the reduction of inflammation.”

What is matcha in the body doing?

Alva also notes that Matcha helps improve concentration and mental calm. “It contains Lene, which is combined with L -Théanine – an amino acid that smooths the effects of wool, promoting a stable state of vigilance without the tips or accidents you get coffee.”

He adds that L -Théanine also stimulates the production of dopamine and serotonin – aka the “hormones”. “This is why people say that matcha” activates you “without overestimating the nervous system. It is a softer option, especially for those who have lost anxiety or nervousness, ”explains Alva.

And the advantages do not stop there. According to the nutrition expert, matcha also stimulates metabolism, helps regulate blood sugar and supports the immune system. “It is thanks to its high concentration of polyphenols and vitamins C, A and E.”

What are the disadvantages of Matcha?

“If it is not of high quality, matcha can contain heavy metals and lead due to the contamination of the soil where it is cultivated,” warns Giovanna Alva. “This can also cause acidity or digestive discomfort in people with sensitive stomachs, especially if they are consumed on an empty stomach.”
