Immunity cubes are the internet’s favourite remedy for flu season—but how effective are they?

When the sniff season strikes, you can run, but you can’t really hide. The cold does not discriminate. It happens to most of us sooner or later. But what happens if you had a concocction of strengthening the immunity hidden in your freezer, ready to help you dodge the ball? Enter the immunity cubes – the last darling of the Internet in the quest for cold and flu remedies.

What are the immunity cubes anyway?
As the name suggests, the immunity cubes are mixtures of powerful ingredients and immune support, frozen in portions that are easy to use. If necessary, simply dissolve one in hot water for a quick boost. This makeup approach makes it a lazy favorite.
“Immunity cubes constitute practical and nutrient bites in ingredients that can strengthen the immune system,” said Dr. Ba Chaurasia, internal medicine consultant at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Nutritionist in functional medicine Karishmma Chawla agrees: “80% of the immune system lies in your intestine, and these cubes can be completed by balanced meals to support intestinal health and immunity.”
For those who have no time (or domestic help) to juice every day fresh ingredients, this frozen shortcut can change the situation. “Make this concocion in advance guarantees that you have a blow of immunity at your fingertips if necessary,” explains Chawla.
Do they actually work?
Immunity cubes can be a useful addition to a healthy routine, but it is not a magic solution, explains Dr. Chaurasia. “While ingredients like Amla and Turmeric have anti-inflammatory and immuno-boosting properties, only relying on these cubes will not move forward infections. Vitamin C (present in Amla) can reduce the severity of a cold, but that does not prevent the disease. »»
Herbs As Tulsi supports the immune function, but they work better in the context of a balanced diet and lifestyle. If a cold takes place, these cubes can offer a certain relief alongside hot fluids, rest and hydration. “However, good nutrition, adequate management of sleep and stress remain the real game changes to maintain a strong immune system,” said Dr Chaurasia.
How much should you consume?
No longer is not always better, especially with vitamin C. Dr Chaurasia advises limiting the contribution according to the vitamin C content of the cube. “If a cube has 500 mg of vitamin C, one to two a day should be enough for most adults,” he said. The daily recommendation is 65 to 90 mg, but up to 500 mg can help during the flu season. Exverting 2,000 mg can cause acidity, digestive problems or even kidney stones.
“If you already get enough citrus fruits, guava or peppers, supplementation may not be necessary. As with most supplements, moderation is the key, it is therefore preferable to consult a health professional if you are not sure of the right dose, ”he adds.

The immunity cubes offer a boost in nutrients but are not an autonomous shield against the disease. Experts emphasize that strong immunity is built over time thanks to diet, lifestyle and general well-being.
Dr. Chaurasia highlights the importance of a diet rich in nutrients with seasonal fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and fermented foods such as Caillé, Kanji or Babeurre to support intestinal health. Hydration is also important, so hot herbal teas, spicy kadha or lemon infused water can help keep the respiratory system clear.
Exercise, quality sleep (seven to eight hours) and stress management by meditation or deep breathing further strengthens immunity. “In the end, immunity cubes can be a support tool, but they work better when combined with a balanced lifestyle,” concludes Dr Chaurasia.
