India is not worried about America’s tariff policy, the Ministry of External Affairs gave this answer

On the tariff policy of US President Donald Trump, India said on Friday that it was considering strengthening trade relations with the US by reducing tariffs and non-tariff barriers through bilateral trade agreement. According to his “US First” policy, Trump announced a mutual tariff on several business partners and countries from April 2 this week, which impose high duty on imports from the US.

In its first response, New Delhi indicated that it expects a cordial solution to the issue.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to America last month, the two sides announced a plan to negotiate mutually beneficial, multi-regional bilateral trade agreement (BTA).

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal was in the US and met his counterparts and the two governments are in the process of advancing the discussion on multi-regional bilateral trade agreement. He said, “Our aim through BTA is to strengthen and deepen the Indo-US bilateral trade in the fields of goods and services, increase market access, reduce tariffs and non-tariff barriers and deepen the supply chain integration between the two countries.”
