69 percent reduction in malaria cases
According to the World Health Organization’s ‘World Malaria Report’ released in December 2024, there has been a decrease of 69% in malaria cases between 2017 and 2023 in India and 68% in deaths. India’s contribution to the total malaria cases around the world in 2023 was only 0.8%. In 2024, India came out of the World Health Organization’s ‘High Burden to High Impact’ (HBHI) group, which is a major health achievement. 2.2 billion cases of malaria still in the world
According to the World Health Organization, since 2000, about 2.2 billion cases of malaria and about 1.27 crore deaths have been stopped. So far, the World Health Organization has declared 45 countries and one region as ‘malaria -free’. At the same time, countries which have less malaria cases, are also slowly moving towards completely eliminating it. At present, malaria is present in 83 countries, but 25 of these countries registered only 10 or less cases in 2023. Although there has been a lot of progress, malaria still remains a big health challenge. In 2023 alone, about 6 lakh people lost their lives due to malaria.
