Just a small mutation away from next Pandemic- New Corona Virus found in China HKU5-Cov-2 threat of epidemic in the future

Last updated:

Next Big Threat: Scientists have feared that if a mutation of a virus present in an organism is done, it can prove to be dangerous than corona.

Just 1 mutation remains, then this virus will hurt more humans than corona,

Fear of next epidemic.

Highlights

  • HKU5-Cov-2 virus mutation can be dangerous.
  • Scientists stated the need for monitoring and preparation.
  • This virus is just one step away from spreading to humans.

American scientists have warned that a new corona virus found in China can cause dangerous epidemics in future. The name of this virus is HKU5-Cov-2. It is related to the Mars virus. If there is a slight change in mutation, this virus can infect human cells through Ace2 receptor. If this virus reaches another organism, then that change can come in it. Scientists have stressed the need for immediate monitoring and preparation in view of its danger.

Epideotics

According to the news published in the Economic Times, a group of some virus found in bats is just a small mutation. There is so much potential in this that it can cause next epidemic. The relationship of this deadly virus is associated with the Middle East Respiratory syndrome corona virus (Mers-Cov). Interestingly, this virus has also been identified first in the bats of China. In a recent study published in Nature Communications, researchers said that a special subgroup of these viruses HKU5 shows features that indicate that the virus can cross the border. For this reason, it can pose a risk of spreading from animals to humans. The study was conducted by researchers at Washington State University in collaboration with California Institute of Technology and University of North Carolina. This study focused on a low -recognized corona virus group, called MerbeCovirus. Mars also comes in this group in which about 34 percent of human mortality rates have been seen in humans.

Just far away from spreading to humans
According to the study, although most of Merbecovirus do not directly infect humans, a subgroup named HKU5 is causing concern. Dr. Michael Letco, a virologist at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Washington State University, said that Merbecovirus was not yet paid much attention, but our study shows how these viruses infect. He also said that we have found that the HKU5 virus can be a small step away from spreading to humans. Researchers used virus particles in their study, including only a receptor connecting the spike protein of the virus. This proved that the HKU5 virus can already use the Ace2 receptor. The same receptor also uses Sars-Cov-2 which caused Kovid-19. However, the HKU5 viruses are currently connected to the Ace2 receptor of bats and do not currently infect human cells effectively.
