The venerated art of Zardozi embroidery would come from Persian and jointly two Persian words: ‘zar‘(gold) and’dozi‘(embroidery). During its peak in the 13thth Century, the profession was executed in gold and silver threads and was used to embellish almost everything, tents with the forks of the Royals of old.
Today, it is interpreted differently with several metal wires which are used to carefully sew the surface ornamentation on a range of textiles. The time and the profession with high intensity of labor can take between 10 days to a few months to finish, depending on the complexity of the design. Malhotra has long been his standard bearer, carrying his legacy in front with several sewing collections, notably “Nooraniyat”.
