London metropolitan police have issued a statement after British comedian actor Russell Brand has been accused of rape

London Metropolitan Police said Friday it condemned comedian and actor Russell Brand’s rape and other sexual offences.The brand, known internationally as the ex-husband of pop star Katy Perry, has created a career as a stand-up comedian, working in dangerous routines and has been accused of two cases of rape, obscene assault, oral rape and sexual harassment.The alleged crime took place between 1999 and 2005, according to the Associated Press.

Police said the brand is scheduled to appear in court in London on May 2. “The Met investigation is still open and detectives will ask anyone affected by the incident to come and talk to police,” the statement said. The incident was revealed in September 2023, according to the Associated Press Report. This is when the UK Media Outlet Channel 4 and the Sunday Times released allegations of sexual harassment or rape by four women.
A study launched by Banjay UK (the brand bought the show) discovered that while working on several programs on the channel, they found that they were not “providing or addressing” the concerns that were unofficially raised about the behavior of comedians and actors.
