MISHO’s debut high jewellery collection is inspired by the gates of Jaipur’s iconic City Palace.

It is not every day that you hear about a designer with a designer with his gold in heritage to create a collection of high jewelry … so that other people have. But that’s exactly what Suhani Parekh of Misho did with Jaipur, his first foray into high jewelry.

The inspiration struck late at night when Parekh visited the pink city. Passing a massive door at the city’s palace, she stopped in her footsteps. “There’s something in a door,” she said. “It’s more than a simple entrance – it’s a threshold, a space between two worlds.” This sounds particularly true for the doors that separate the old town from the new. After having visited several times before, it was only during a recent trip that the importance of these doors sparked the idea of this exclusive collection of 16 pieces. Jaipur is a city that ignites creativity in all eyes that see it. Each corner offers something – a shadow, a mosaic, a golden ribbon – but how to do it justice?

For Parekh, the answer lies in deconstruction. She took the gold from her personal collection – “You know how gold is transmitted during generations – small trinkets, gold coins to inheritances – pieces that are often never really used,” she says . “I wanted to deconstruct them and reinvent them in a way that resonates with my design sensitivities today,” she explains. Parekh uses 18K SMO gold alongside reused gold. What exactly SMO Gold? Single Mine Origin Gold is a new global standard which guarantees that it is of responsible and fully traceable origin to a single mine.

This collection marks almost a double start for Misho – its first foray into high jewelry and a jump into the world of precious stones and vibrant colors. “Illustrating Jaipur without color would be a terrible injustice,” she says. The collection deliberately expands the palette of Misho materials, forging a stronger connection with the culture that inspired it, while pushing the limits of the brand’s design language.

The deep blue of the Peacock door inspired the use of rich sapphires. The greens and roses of the Lotus and Leheriya doors are captured through pink sapphires and shades of variable emeralds. The patterns of roses of the winter door naturally led to bright rubies. Each stone tells a story, a bit like the city itself.

Coming from the legendary Johri Bazaar de Jaipur, the precious stones of Jaipur also link the collection with the rich history and craft of the city. Parekh has also worked on the reimagination of traditional techniques, such as Meenakari stir and the complex details of pearls, for this collection. For example, instead of using pearls in their usual form, it integrates them unexpectedly, such as accentuated details. “I wanted to design it in a way that the suspended pearls improve the sculptural nature of jewelry,” she explains.

The collaborative collection between Misho and Princess Gauravi Kumari is more than a simple artistic pursuit – it also supports the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation, an initiative dedicated to the empowerment of women craftsmen through Rajasthan. “It looked like a natural synergy,” notes Parekh. The cities that designers meet often become a rich source of inspiration – their architecture, their culture, their history and their dynamic atmosphere leave a lasting imprint. Jaipur, in particular, provided a multitude of ideas for this collection and the objective was to honor the spirit of the city and the people who helped shape the collection. The PDFK Foundation strives to guarantee that traditional craftsmanship thrives in contemporary contexts, a cause close to Parekh and Gauravi Kumari, the daughter of Diya and the current face of the foundation. Part of the benefits of Jaipur will be given to the Foundation, and a charm of jewelry bag inspired by Jaipur will also be available for purchase, all the benefits benefiting the Foundation.

Parekh has known Gauravi for about three years. Curiously, they already knew the brands of each other before they even met – Gauravi was a Millo client, and Parekh had bought in PDFK. When they finally crossed the paths, the connection was instantaneous, but it was only when Misho has the point of view of heritage jewelry caught Gauravi’s eye that the idea of collaboration was really good. “It’s incredible to see elements of the palace, elements that have adorned space for years, through a different perspective. I am particularly in love with attention to details and exquisite crafts in each room, ”she notes.

No collection is really complete without a part that flies the spotlight. For Gauravi, these pieces are the Emerald diamond door earrings and the Emerald diamond ears. “The door is one of the most emblematic characteristics of the city’s palace,” she thinks. “It’s exciting to see him redesigned in a way that mixes both contemporary and timeless.” Parekh, however, has trouble choosing a single out -of -competition piece – she jokes that she ideally wants to leave each piece from the collection to her daughter, Veya. But door -shaped earrings occupy a special place in his heart. “They are like tiny portals,” she smiles. “Browse them and you could find yourself in a whole new world.”

Misho Jaipur will be launched on February 27 and will be available exclusively by appointment in their Mumbai studio.
