Musk is out

I bought this before Elon went crazy and read the bumper stickers on many Tesla cars. Others just said, Elon shut up. The world has had enough of Elon Musk. The world has been wiped out by Musk.

Elon Musk is the richest man on earth, with his net worth recently crossing the $500 billion mark. He will become the first trillionaire ever. It is normal for a man with so much wealth and power to have certain advantages. But Elon is an advantage in his own right.

After serenading the recently divorced Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni, Musk is now condemning German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for his handling of the recent terrorist attacks in eastern Germany. Musk wants Germany to extradite the Saudi suspect to Saudi Arabia, where he can be executed (Germany does not have the death penalty).

It might have been okay if Musk was speaking as a private citizen, but he appears to have the backing of US President-elect Donald Trump. Musk has helped Trump a lot, such as donating over $100 million to his campaign and lifting a ban imposed on him by Twitter (now X). But now Trump can’t seem to get rid of him.

To many, Trump seems unhinged, and perhaps he likes the even more unhinged Musk around him. From playing the role of a dancing fool at election rallies, Musk is now doing the same thing in his future administration. Without Musk, the next four years are destined to be full of ups and downs. With him around, they would be even more bumpy.

The only hope is that Trump will get tired of Musk and abandon him, just like he did with so many other colleagues like Steve Bannon. But that may be a long shot. What a (terrible) journey we are in for!

There is no doubt that Musk is a genius. In many ways, he is smarter than Trump. The real danger going forward is that Musk plays some kind of posturing American president, liking or disliking foreign governments at will. Today, American diplomats are panicking. They can rest assured that Musk is speaking for Trump. Tomorrow could be even crazier when they’re not sure of the equation between Musk and Trump.

Trump has assigned a Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) to Musk and appointed Vivek Ramaswamy as his subordinate. DOGE is supposed to make the federal government leaner and leaner, but Musk is just increasing the number of people in the federal government by hiring people on X who he says have to work 80+ hours a week. It is unclear whether serving as head of the Government House is a cabinet-level position.

The affairs of the country are too serious to be left to mavericks like Musk and Trump. Trump is already acting like a president. Decent man Joe Biden is too tired to restrain him. Musk is already Trump’s clarion call. Trump will be sworn in as president on January 20, 2025. Imagine how Musk would behave then, bossing everyone around.

Musk has developed ties to the Trump family. He calls himself his “first partner.” Whenever Trump holds a major event at his Florida resort Mar-a-Lago, he is there and is the last to leave. Trump’s granddaughters call him uncle and are excited to watch SpaceX launches with him.

Musk promises to send humans to Mars and colonize it. It would be better for everyone if he joins the Mars team and stays there. Let the Germans rest in peace!
