England New Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt: Nate Cyver-Brant has been made the new captain of England’s women’s cricket team. England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed this on Tuesday. Cyver-Brant will replace Heather Knight, who took charge of England for the last 9 years. Cyver-Brant was earlier the vice-captain of the team. In the multi -format Ashes series against Australia, England suffered a unilateral defeat, due to which Heather Knight had to lose his hand.

England faced a simple T20 World Cup campaign in the United Arab Emirates last year where they could not move beyond the group stage and then lost 16–0 to Australia in women’s Ashes. Due to this defeat, head coach John Lewis also had to resign, which was replaced by former player Charlotte Edwards.

The 32-year-old Cyver-Bunt has established itself in all formats in the last 12 years since his debut in 2013. He was named PCA Player of the Year twice in 2017 and 2022. Twice- 2022, also won the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year Award for 2023.

Cyver-Bunt performed brilliantly in 2023. She was part of the ICC Women’s ODI and T20 teams in 2023. Recently, she became the first player to score 500 runs in a season of the Women’s Premier League, and became the first player to score 1000 runs in the tournament. He is third in the ICC batting rankings in ODI cricket. She was part of the World Cup winning team in 2017.

On becoming the captain, Cyver-Brant said, “I am really proud to play the role of the captain of the England women’s team and it is an honor that Charlotte has entrusted me this responsibility.” Cyver-Bunt further said, “Ever since I made her debut in England in 2013, I just want to do that I will help the team in every possible way. I will do my best to take this team to success.”

Cyver-Bunt has also led England before. In 2021, he first led the team against New Zealand in the third T20. A year later, he led the team in the Commonwealth Games. He has so far captained England in a total of 12 matches, in which England have won nine matches. He has captained a total of 11 T20s and one ODI for England. “We are happy to appoint Net as the captain of the England women’s team,” said Claire Connor, Managing Director of England Women’s Cricket.

The term of Cyver-Brant will start against the West Indies with a Wanned and T20 series. This series is the home summer part of England. After this, she will host India for five T20 and three ODIs before the Women’s World Cup in September-October this year.

Sear-Brants are currently on maternity leave and will join the team for the series against the West Indies and India. Siva-Brant, who made her debut in 2013, has played a total of 259 matches for England in all the formats. In the Test, he has scored at an average of 46.47, 45.91 in ODIs and 28.45 in T20 while he also has 181 international wickets.

In 2024-25 Ashes, Cyver-Bunt scored the second most runs for England after Knight, while she was third in the list of most runs scoring batsmen. In this list, Australia’s Beth Muni was earlier.
