No talks on resuming trade with Pakistan: Jaishankar

Washington:

India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday that there has been no discussion on resuming trade with Pakistan. Responding to a question during a press conference in Washington, Jaishankar said, “Since last year, there have been no talks on trade with Pakistan nor has any initiative been taken from their (Pakistan) side.”

He said that India never stopped trade with Pakistan but in 2019 the Pakistan government itself decided to stop it. Jaishankar said, “It has been our endeavor since the beginning that India should get the Most Favored Nation (MFN) status. We used to give MFN status to Pakistan, but it did not give us that status.

After the abrogation of most of the provisions of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, in August 2019, the then Pakistan government led by Imran Khan had ended all bilateral trade. Pakistan had also reduced its diplomatic relations with India.
