Now there is no problem for scammers, new DoT order to telecom companies regarding fake calls

The DoT has ordered telecom companies Airtel, BSNL, Jio and Vodafone Idea to roll out the CNAP service soon. Telecom companies have been testing the Caller ID Name Presentation or CNAP feature since last year. After introducing this feature, every caller coming to the phone can be easily identified.

The Ministry of Telecommunications has asked telecommunications companies to implement this measure quickly in order to get rid of fake calls arriving on individuals’ numbers. EAccording to the T Telecom report, during the meeting held with telecom operators last week, the Department of Telecommunications said that this technology was being tested. This technology will work for smartphone users. 2G feature phone users will not benefit from this feature. After implementing CNAP, the caller name will be visible in incoming calls on the mobile user’s phone. In it, the same name of the caller will be visible, in whose name the SIM card was issued. In such a situation, scammers will not be able to make fake calls.
Recently, keeping in mind the interests of mobile users across the country, the PMO requested the Ministry of Telecommunications that new SIM cards should not be sold without Aadhaar biometric verification. In this way, SIM cards cannot be issued using false documents and fraud can be curbed.
Let us tell you that CNAP is an additional service that displays the caller’s name on the phone screen. Currently, third-party apps like TrueCaller and Bharat Caller ID & Anti Spam also provide caller name identification feature. This third-party app service is based on crowd-sourced data which is unreliable. TRAI based the recommendations made by CNAP last year on the basis of the name recorded in the user’s KYC document.
