Born in Lahore on January 16, 1926 in Lahore, OP Nayyar began his career with the film Aashman. He is considered one of the most rhythmic and melodious music directors in the Hindi film industry. OP Nayyar was the first musician of his time who gave such a melodious music without using the voice of Lata MANGESHKAR.
He won the filmfare Award for the best musical director in 1958 for a new lap. Nayar Saheb worked a lot with Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhosle, Mohammad Rafi, but not with the main Bollywood singer, Lata MANGESHKAR. He had already identified Kishore Kumar as his popular singer. Film like Bap Re Bap (1955) is one of Kumar’s special “op” style “OP” films as well as the film Ragini (1958), but the relationship did not last long.
OP Nayyar met another big singer Asha Bhosle. If someone may have the merit of having made Asha Tai like Asha Bhosle, then it was OP Nayyar. He took full advantage of the Asha vocal range. Nayyar Saheb and Asha Bhosle have become very close while working together in many films, but the same love story has also become the cause of the ruin of Nayyar Saheb. The music historian Raju Bharatan wrote on the love affair of both in his book “A Journey Down Memory Lane”, the love story of Op Nayyar with Asha Bhosle lasted 14 years.
Asha Bhosle, who wandered once in the OP Nayyar class car, decided to end this musical chapter in his life in 1972. After that, Asha Bhosle and OP Nayyar never went under one roof.
