Papua New Guinea Earthquake: A powerful earthquake was felt in Papua New Guinea on Saturday morning. The intensity of this earthquake is estimated at 6.9 on the request scale. After the earthquake, the local people came into panic. The earthquake occurred at 6:04 am local time and its center was about 194 km south-east from the nearest city Kimbe. A tsunami warning has also been issued after the earthquake. Also, two more shocks were felt after this earthquake, which were relatively light.
According to the US Geological Survey, a 6.9 -magnitude earthquake occurred on Saturday morning on the New Britain Island of Papua New Guinea. This was followed by two small earthquakes with intensity of 5.1 and 5.3 near the same maritime area.
Center was 10 km below the ground
According to the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the center of depth of this earthquake was recorded 10 km below the ground surface. Due to this, tsunami is expected to come and one to three meters high. Along with this, small waves of less than 0.3 meters are also predicted in some parts of the neighboring Pacific country of Solomon.
According to USGS, about 30 minutes later, a small earthquake of 5.3 magnitude was recorded at about 30 minutes later.
