During this time, people kept waiting for a glimpse of PM Modi outside the airport amid heavy rains in the capital of Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister reached the capital of Sri Lanka after completing his visit to Bangkok. In Bangkok, he attended the summit of BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal for multi-regional technical and economic cooperation). Prime Minister Modi will hold extensive talks with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayake on Saturday.
After the meeting, India and Sri Lanka are expected to agree to about 10 areas, including promoting cooperation in the areas of defense, energy security and digitization.
7 possibility of finalization of 7 agreements
Prime Minister Modi said in a statement on Thursday before leaving for a visit to two countries, “We will have the opportunity to review the progress on the joint approach to ‘promote partnership for a common future’ and to provide further guidance to make our shared objectives come true.” The joint approach was adopted three months ago during the Sri Lankan President’s visit to New Delhi. People who have known about Prime Minister Modi’s developments during the visit of Sri Lanka said that seven agreements including agreement on defense cooperation are likely to be finalized, besides three more agreements. He said that if the memorandum of agreement is signed on the defense cooperation, it would be a sign of a major initiative in the India-Sri Lanka defense relations, and about 35 years ago, India will leave behind the bitter chapter related to the withdrawal of the Indian Peace Army (IPKF) from the island nation about 35 years ago.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Sri Lanka is taking place at a time when this island country is indicating to recover from the economic crisis. Three years ago, Sri Lanka was struggling with a major economic crisis and India gave him financial assistance of US $ 4.5 billion. Following the talks between Modi and Disinayak, Sri Lanka is likely to make two documents related to India’s assistance and India’s assistance on debt restructuring. PM Modi and Disanayak will inaugurate many projects made from India’s support in Colombo. The two leaders will also witness the ‘online’ foundation stone of the Sampur Solar Energy Project. PM Modi is also scheduled to meet many Sri Lanka leaders. PM Modi and Disinayak will go to the historic city of Anuradhapura on April 6, where they will offer prayers at the Mahabodhi temple. The two leaders will jointly inaugurate two projects in Anuradhapura with the help of India.
