I always felt like my circumstances never supported me. My father Pankaj Kapoor has been in the film industry since 1980. Despite this, I was not brought up in a particular family. My parents divorced when I was three. I have lived with my mother Neelima Azim since my childhood. My mother started doing Kathak when she was 15 years old. She was a Kathak dancer.

Shahid said that there was a time when he did not even have money to buy clothes from Lokhandwala market.
