Starlink ready for entry in India, government approves Alan Musk’s satellite internet service

If you get upset with the internet speed while traveling by train or are unable to make video calls from your relatives living in a far-flung village, then there is a great news for you. The Government of India has approved the Satellite Internet Satellite Internet Service of Spacex, a company of billionaire Alan Musk.

What is Starlink and how does it work?

Starlink is a satellite internet service that gives internet with the help of the world’s largest low meaning orbit (Leo) satellites. These satellites are just 550 kilometers above the Earth, so they offer much faster and low -latency broadband service compared to traditional satellites.

Approval from government

The Department of Telecommunications (DOT) has issued a letter of ‘Letter of Intent’ to Starlink. This means that now Starlink is on the last stage of starting its service in India. Earlier, companies like Jio and Bharti Airtel have also got similar approval.

Where will Starlink Satellite Internet Service be used?

The purpose of Starlink is to deliver internet to areas where traditional networks do not reach such as mountainous areas, forest, desert or border villages. However, this service will currently be for connectivity only indoors or at stable location, not like a mobile network.

How expensive it will be?

According to the government, satellite service like Starlink is quite expensive than common mobile internet. The cost of installation can also be 10 times more. Apart from this, every month’s bill can also be more than common broadband. That is, at present, this service is beneficial for those areas where there is no other option.

Security rules will also be strict

The government has also laid down some strict conditions for satellite services. Companies have to prove that their internet service meets Indian security standards. Also, all the data will be processed in India itself and there will be no connection with the foreign system.

Will Starlink replace mobile data?

The government has made it clear that service like Starlink is not the option of mobile network. Starlink customers in the country are still less than 50 lakhs, and their speed is also less than the traditional network. Therefore, this service will be only for limited use and special areas.
