SUV hit the crowd during the festival in Canada, many people died

A fierce accident occurred during the Lepu Lepu Filipino Festival held in Vancouver city of Canada. During the festival, a high speed SUV hit the crowd, killing many people and injured many others. According to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD), the incident took place on Sunday according to Indian time. Officials have confirmed that the incident (Canada time) took place after 8 pm on Saturday night near East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street. The police have taken the SUV driver into custody. Lepu Lepu ‘Day Block Party’ was being celebrated here, which is an annual program to be held in honor of the first national hero of the Philippines.
The Vancouver Police said on the social media platform X, “Today (Saturday), after 8 pm, the driver in a street festival near E. 41st Avenue and Fraser inserted SUV in the crowd. Many people died and many others were injured in this accident. The driver has been taken into custody. Further investigation is being done.” Soon after the incident, many frightening videos from the spot went viral on social media. In the video, many victims were seen lying on the ground, some of whom are dead or seriously injured. According to eyewitnesses, the car hit him when he was walking on the road.

New Democratic MP Don Davis expressed his condolences on X and wrote, “The sad news of the terrible attack at Lepu Lapu Festival has just heard. I wish my condolences to the family of the deceased and the injured wish for early health.” Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim also said on the incident, “I am shocked and very saddened by the horrific incident at the festival. In this extremely difficult time, our sensations are with all the affected people and the Filipino community of Vancouver.”
According to the information, a large number of emergency services are present at the scene and the incident is being investigated. Media reports states that it is still not clear whether the accident happened suddenly or was deliberately done. The purpose of the Lepu Lapu Festival held in the fields of E. 43rd Avenue and Fraser Street was to celebrate the Philippine Heritage, but it turned into a tragic event.
