Tariff talks with India are going well, it seems to be a business agreement: Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi

US President Donald Trump has said that tariff talks with India are “going very well” and they feel that the two countries will soon sign a trade agreement. Donald Trump made this comment on Tuesday (US time) while talking to reporters outside the White House.

Donald Trump said while talking to the media outside the White House, “I think we will make an agreement with India.” According to CNBC News, he said, “As you know, Prime Minister (Modi) came here three weeks ago and wants to make a compromise.”

Significantly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the White House in late February. Trump’s remarks came a day after the US Finance Minister (Finance Secretary) Scott Besant’s statement in which he said that America is “very close to India.”

On April 2, US President Trump announced a comprehensive recipe -rocker tariff on several countries including India and China. However, on 9 April, he postponed these tariffs for 90 days till 9 July this year except China and Hong Kong. He said that about 75 countries have approached the US for the trade deal and they have to complete the deal in these 90 days to avoid tariffs. However, in addition to 25 percent tariffs on steel, aluminum and auto components, 10 percent baseline tariff imposed on countries on April 2 will be effective.
