Telecom companies will have to pay up to 10 lakh

New Delhi:
There is relief news for people troubled by spam calls and unwanted messages. The government has given a clear warning to the telecom companies that if they do not take necessary steps to stop spam, then they will be fined up to Rs 10 lakh. The government has taken this strict step so that consumers can be saved from advertising messages and calls sent without consent.
Rules changed to stop spam
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has made some important changes in the Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR), 2018. Its purpose is to prevent spam calls and unwanted commercial communications – UCC and gives people experience of digital communication.
According to new guidelines:
- If a telecom company makes a disturbance in spam reporting, then a fine of up to Rs 2 lakh, 5 lakhs for the second mistake and up to Rs 10 lakh for repeated mistakes.
- This fine will be imposed on registered and unregister sanders in different ways.
- Telecom companies will also have to ensure that advertisements or promotional messages are being sent to the customers’ consent and preference.
Now customers will be able to complain easily
Now consumers will have the right to block spam calls and messages and file a complaint against them, even if they have not already set any preference. Earlier, a person could have complained about spam calls or messages within just 3 days, but now this limit has been increased to 7 days.
Now if the complaint of a customer will have a brief information about the number, date and spam sender, then it will be considered a valid complaint and action will be taken. At the same time, in the first 30 days, action was taken against those sending spasms, but now it has been reduced to 5 days.
Strict action will be taken against those sending spam
TRAI has tightened the rules for strict action on spammers. Earlier, action was taken against a spammer only when 10 complaints were received against him in 7 days, but now it has been reduced to 5 complaints in 10 days.
This change will take quick action against those who send spam calls and messages. Not only this, a large number of spammers can be caught. People will get relief from promotional calls and messages without consent.
Why is the government doing so strictness?
The government wants people to get advertisements or promotional messages from only those companies, which they agree with. These new rules are made for the protection of digital rights of consumers.
Now people can easily complain against spam calls and messages and telecom companies will have to take action immediately. This decision of the government is a big step towards creating a safe and reliable telecom system. If you are also troubled by spam calls and messages, then make sure to complain about your telecom company’s helpline number or through TRAI.
