Pope Francis Dies: After the death of Pope Francis, nine -day mourning time has begun in the Vatican, which is known as Novendial. It is an ancient Roman tradition that continues even today. During this time, preparations for the election of the next Pope will start. After the period of mourning, the cardinals will be called to the Conclave to choose the next pope. Currently, four of the 135 cardinals eligible to vote in the Conclave for the Pope’s election are from India. These include Cardinal Philip Nerry Ferrao, Cardinal Basilios Claimis, Cardinal Anthony Pula and Cardinal George Jacob Kuwakad.

  • Cardinal George Jacob Kuwakad is 51 years old. They are the prefactors of the Cardinal-Deekan and Sarkonavalajion Appia and inter-religious dialogue of S Antonio de Padova.
  • Cardinal Philip Nerry Antonio Sebastiao Do Rosario Pherao is 72 years old. He is the Metropolitan Archbishop of Goa and Daman (India), President of the Catholic Bishop Conference of India and President of the Asian Bishop Conference Association.
  • Cardinal Anthony Pula is 63 years old and is the metropolitan archbishop of Hyderabad.
  • Cardinal Basilios Cleemis Thutunakal is the chief archbishop of Trivandrum of Siro-Malakara (India) and the President of the Dharm Sabha of Siro-Malakara Church.

As of April 19, there are a total of 252 cardinals in the world, of which 135 are eligible to vote in a conference to choose new Pope.
