The US has expelled South African Ambassador Ibrahim Rasool. South African President Cyril Ramafosa has regretted this decision of the Trump administration. According to a statement issued by the President’s Office on Saturday, he appealed to all concerned and affected stakeholders to maintain diplomatic etiquette established in this matter.
The President’s Office said, “South Africa is committed to mutually beneficial relations with the United States.”
According to the news agency Xinhua, Rasool in his address accused Trump of leading the ‘global white domination movement’ and breaking the norms and practices established in terms of diplomacy.
Foreign Minister Marco Rubio on Friday called Rasool a ‘racist leader’ who hates America and President Donald Trump.
Rubio wrote on the social media platform X, “The Ambassador of South Africa in the United States is no longer welcome to our great country. We have nothing to discuss with them and hence they are considered unwanted people.”
Relations between the United States and South Africa are running poorly. The period of tension began when Trump decided to cut the US financial aid to South Africa. Trump is angry with the land policy of South Africa and its massacre in the International Court of Washington in the International Court of Israel.
