Triston Stabs’ father Chris Stabs told during a conversation with the Times of India that he had to face a lot of difficulties in his hockey career. He did not want Triston to face the same challenges where money and stability are very low. So he extended the inclination of Triston towards cricket.
Chris said, ‘There is no money in hockey. This is a hard work, fun, but not right for career. The result was that Triston accepted his father Chris’s advice and got rum in cricket instead of hockey. At present, he is busy in IPL. Here he is part of the team of Delhi Capitals led by Akshar Patel.
Son flew to father’s dream
Chris Stabs still regrets that he could not attend for the national hockey team of South Africa, but he is proud that he played a hockey match against India.
Chris laughed and said, ‘I played hockey at the divisional level, but it was not so good that I could play for the country. My most memorable match was against India. In the 90s, when India visited South Africa, I played for Southern Transwal. It was a warm-up match, but India defeated us 5–0 in this match.
Chris always had a dream that his son played for the country one day. There should be a flag of his country on his jersey. Triston has realized his father’s dream.
Hockey made Triston a cricket hero
Triston has learned a lot from playing hockey in childhood. Putting control of the ball, accurate timing and strength, they have got all this through hockey.
Chris said, ‘Triston was always crazy about cricket, but hockey enhanced her further. Hockey is visible in his reverse sweep and sweep shots. He used to play with hockey sticks and balls in childhood.
Triston’s story is also special for Indian fans. Triston’s father Chris played hockey against India in the 90s. They have not forgotten that match even today. Chris laughed and said, “We lost 5–0 to India.” But now his son is getting the love of fans by playing IPL in India.
