Trump ‘Fire’ to Jinping ‘Wild Fire’! How China has caught in tariff war- Know from Tilan

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping
The open trade war between China and America continues. Neither US President Donald Trump is ready to retreat nor Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to even a little bit. On April 2, a tariff war with China started before Trump’s alleged ‘Liberation Day’ for the US. Since then, it seems as if there is a bidding in an auction- one paternal America walks and the other is China. The situation now is that 145 percent tariffs are being charged on the Chinese goods coming in the US, then 125 percent tariffs are being imposed on American goods coming in China. One thing is clear in all these liftings that the Trump had hoped that China would look helpless in front of him as soon as he goes on the backfoot, nothing has happened. Let us tell you through a timeline how China has retaliated on America till now:
- On 1 February 2025, Trump imposed 10% tariff on China, while 25% on Mexico and Canada. On 3 February, Trump stopped 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada, but did not give any relief to China and 10% tariff was implemented on all Chinese goods from 4 February. On the same day, China announced that it would impose 15% tariffs on American coal and LNG (liquid natural gas) and 10% tariffs on crude oil and agricultural machinery, big display cars and pickup trucks. It became effective from 10 February.
- On March 4, Trump imposed an additional 10% tariff (now total tariffs 20%), and 25% tariff on Mexican and Canadian imports with some exceptions. On the same day, China lodged its protest by putting 10 to 15% tariffs on American agricultural products which came into effect from 10 March.
- From March 12, 25% tariff on steel and aluminum coming from all countries inside the US came into force. China was already charged with 20% tariff, so 45% tariffs were levied in the US on steel and aluminum coming from China.
- Then came 2 April Liberation Day. Trump announced a package of “reciperook” tariff on all countries. There was a 34% increase in tariffs on China. From April 5, a basic tariff of 10% came into force and from April 9, the entire tariff started to be charged. In response, China announced a 34% tariff on American goods from 10 April.
- The turn was now Trump. Trump opposed China’s counter -tariff and threatened that if China does not back down, then there would be a 50% tariff of 50% in addition to 34%. On 9 April, Trump put an additional 84% additional levy on all imports on China, causing the total tariff to 104%.
- On April 9, China announced a counter -tariff of 84% on import of American goods. Then on the same day, Trump increased the tariff on sugar imports to at least 145% with immediate effect. On this day, Trump imposed a 90 -day ban (10% basic tariff) on the recipe rocked on all other countries, but China did not get any such relief.
- China announced a ban on export of 7 rare economy metals on 4 April. According to the report of the New York Times, the Chinese government ordered a ban on export of 6 rare economy metals, which are completely refined in China. Also, the export of rare economy magnets was also banned, of which 90 percent are produced in China. Rare Earth Metals and special magnets made from them can now be sent out of China only with special export license.
- On April 11, China increased its tariff on US imports to 125%.

- Also, Beijing has asked its airlines to suspend American companies to suspend the purchase of aircraft-related equipment and parts.
