UPI rules will change from August 1, know what will affect you

The unified payment interface (UPI) has become the most popular support for digital payment in India. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will now make major changes with a view to increasing use and the increase in load on the server. These new rules will affect everyone who pays the UPI, whether it uses Phonepe, Google Pay or Paytm. Know what these changes are and how they will affect your daily transactions.
Now you can only balance the check only 50 times a day
According to the new circular published by NPCI on May 21, 2025, UPI users will now be able to check the balance only 50 times a day. Suppose you use more than one UPI application like Phonepe and Paytm, so each application will be authorized to see the balance 50 times separately.

Why is this change important?
Verification repeatedly of balance leads to excessive load on the server, which slows down the UPI network and also affects other transactions. This limit has been set so that the server remains stable and the services are not interrupted.
Autope Mendate will now be treated only in time not time
UPI autopes are defined for Netflix, Mutual Fund SIP and other subscriptions. Under the new rules, these autope transactions will now be treated only in non -peaks.
What are the peak hours?
– 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
– 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
In these times, an API generated by the system like Autope will be limited or completely closed. This will give priority to manual transactions.
The balance alert will be available after each transaction
NPCI asked all banks to send their user’s balance status after each UPI transaction. For this reason, users will not need to check the balance several times and the network load will not increase.
At the same time, UPI applications will be technically strengthened to avoid the tendency to check the balance several times in peak time. These technical reforms will maintain the speed and reliable UPI.
Strict measures will be taken for violation of rules
NPCI has clarified in its circular only if a bank or a PSP (payment service provider) does not follow these new rules, strict steps such as blocking of the API, penalty and the prevention of the integration of new customers can be taken against it.
All PSPs will have to submit a company to NPCI before August 31, 2025 in which they would ensure that their API generated by the “Q” system will be made and that their speed will be limited.
Updating the balance in real time will be available, you will not have to investigate again and again
NPCI also ensured that even after the implementation of the new rules, customers will continue to update their banking balance in real time. With this, the user will obtain immediate information after the transaction and he will not need to check the balance again and again.
Are we going to suffer from these changes?
Initially, these changes may seem a bit complex, but their goal is to make the UPI network faster, safe and reliable. The balance of balance 50 times a day is generally more than the need for a user. At the same time, Autope transactions will reduce the load on the server in real-time updates and non-time and services will remain better for everyone.
