While shooting her new campaign, designer Kanika Goyal found a creative community thriving in a village in Punjab

For Goyal, Jandiala has become more than a simple backdrop for her creations. It was a rediscovery of the visual language of her childhood – the water tanks she had always taken for granted, the exuberance of the creativity of the small town, the brutality of a place that looks at the ‘interior and outside. “You leave and then you come back, and suddenly, everything looks different,” she smiles. “You realize how much beauty is in what you grew up.”

The statues stand Sentinels on the roofs, their presence that is both strange and familiar. In them, the paradox of Punjab – rooted, but free of mind – gives its most durable form.
