Who is Bhabesh Chandra Roy, who was killed in Bangladesh after kidnapping?

Bhabesh Chandra Roy (58), a prominent leader of the minority Hindu community in Dinajpur district of Bangladesh, was brutally murdered after kidnapping. This incident has re -exposed the increasing atrocities on minority Hindus in Bangladesh. India strongly condemned the murder and demanded the interim government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of minorities.
Bhabesh Chandra Roy was a resident of Basudevpur village of Dinajpur and was the vice -president of the Birral unit of Bangladesh Pooja Utsav Parishad. He was known as an influential leader in the local Hindu community. According to his wife Shantana Roy, on Thursday (April 17, 2025) at around 4:30 pm, Bhabesh received a call through which the attackers confirmed his presence. Half an hour later, four people reached his house on two motorcycles and forcibly kidnapped them.
According to eyewitnesses, Bhabesh was taken to Narabari village, where he was brutally beaten. The attackers later left his unconscious body back to his house in a van. The family immediately took him to Birral Upazila Health Center, then admitted him to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Shantana claimed that she recognizes two attackers.
Abdus Sabur, in -charge of Biral police station, said that the process of registering the case has started and investigation is going on to identify the suspects. India’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal described it as part of “planned atrocities” on Hindu minorities. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also condemned the incident and has demanded immediate diplomatic steps from the Government of India.
