Canada Election Results 2025: Mark Carney will remain the PM of Canada. Mark Carney has changed the position in which Justin Trudeau left the Liberal party of Canada in less than two months. The Liberal Party does not seem to have a majority on its own in Canada’s Parliament with 343 seats, but the party has been running a coalition government since 2019 and it seems to be happening once again. This is a victory of a politician who has an experience of handling an economy, not of politics. This mandate is from the Canada where the people have clearly told US President Donald Trump that it does not have to become the 51st state of America.
Mark Carney- An Economist before politician
The most important thing about Carney is that he is not a politician who has experience of politics. He has been an economist purely. He has been the Governor of Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and Governor of Bank of England from 2013 to 2020. The special thing is that by removing Justin Trudeau, when he took command of the Liberal Party and became PM in March, he has no seat in the House of Commons i.e. Canada’s Parliament. Understand that he was not an MP. He became the second Prime Minister only without a seat in the House of Commons in the history of Canada. This time he contested from Napian seat near Ottawa and won. That is, this time, while becoming PM, he will have his own seat in the House.
Trump made easy way for Liberal Party and Mark Carney
Under the leadership of Justin Trudeau, the Liberal Party was facing anti-incompatible, due to rising inflation, there was a lot of anger among the people. But Trump changed the entire plot after Trump became President and Mark Carney becoming PM in place of Justin Trudeau. With becoming the President of America, Trump has threatened to impose several rounds of tariffs on this country dependent on American trade. Not only this, Trump has also talked about making Canada in America and making it a 51st state.
In such a situation, the basic need to do politics in Canada is that you keep anti -trump stand. The same is with Mark Carney. He had already called Trump a Woldemort (character of Harry Potter Series) and even after becoming PM, he became even more attacker on Trump.
He said in an interview last month: “President Trump probably thinks Canada will bow down. But we are going to stand against a bully, we are not going to back down. We are united and we will retaliate.” Carney called Trump’s threats “the most serious crisis of lifetime” and said on Sunday a day before voting that America wants “our resources, our water, our land, our country”.
How is this news for India?
Ever since Carney took oath as PM in March, India had raised the hope of improvement with Canada. It is believed that becoming the PM of Mark Carney is like a fresh start in Canada for India. And now after winning the election again, the time has come to convert that fresh beginning into a good relationship.
In September 2024, in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the “potential” hand of Indian agents was accused by the then PM Justin Trudeau. After this, relations between India and Canada were under severe stress. New Delhi has dismissed the allegations as absurd. India has said that the “main issue” with Canada is that Canada has given a place to Khalistani separatists in its country. India’s concern and expectation about Canada is only so much- it should not be shown to the Khalistani elements who have carried out anti-India activities on their land and the business relationship between the two countries should be good.
