Why does Ukraine not consider Russian occupation of Crimea? What Trump says, this fight for existence of Jailonsky

US President Donald Trump targeted Ukrainian President Vodimir Jailonsky on Wednesday, 23 April. Trump has alleged that Jailonski is refusing to accept Russian occupation of Crimea and due to this, there is no compromise to end the Ukraine-Russia war. Trump said that the agreement to end the war was “very close”, and the deal with Moscow was effectively complete but it was proving to be “difficult” to interact with Gelnsky refusing to give Crimea. Jailonsky answered this through social media posts. He shared the “Crimea Declaration” released by Trump’s then Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo in 2018, stating that Washington “rejects Russia’s attempt to capture Crimea.”

When the two leaders were accusing each other, Ukrainian officials issued an alert for the “enemy missile” attack on Kiev. After this, the sound of blasts was heard across the capital. The city’s mayor Vitsko said that a three -year -old child was taken to the hospital, later it was told that at least 21 people were injured.

What have Trump alleged Jailonsky?

President Trump said, “The Ukrainian president’s refusal to accept American terms to end the struggle will do nothing but to prolong the ‘murder sector’ (killing field).”

He told the reporters, “I think we have entered into an agreement with Russia. We have to make an agreement with Jailonsky .. I thought the deal with Jailonsky could be easier. It has been difficult till now.”

Prior to Trump, US Vice President JD Vance told the US perspective for a peace agreement. According to this, Russia will occupy the parts of Ukraine, including Crimea, its possession will remain.

But Jailonsky has rejected it as a violation of the Constitution of Ukraine. Trump then expressed displeasure, in which he accused Jailonsky of being “inflammatory” and “very harmful for peace talks with Russia”. Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth, “Jailonsky can find peace or, he can fight for the next three years before losing the whole country.”

Why Crimea is important for Ukraine?

This struggle on Crimea has been going on for more than a decade. In 2014, the Russia’s pro -President in Ukraine was removed from the chair. Russia then captured Crimea and supported militants in a bloody battle in eastern Ukraine.

Till now it has been a clear stand of America that Crimea is a sovereign region of Ukraine and Russia is illegal. It seems that Trump is under the leadership of the US formally recognizing Russian control over Crimea, while it is a violation of the United Nations Charter and its principles that the US has paved the way for implementation since the Second World War. This charter clearly states that the boundaries should not be replaced by force.

Ukraine has long stated that it will not release Crimea, illegally occupied by Russia in 2014. Recognizing Russia’s illegal occupation of Crimea would not only be politically impossible for Jailonski, but it would also be unlike the post -war international legal norms (UN Charter) that the boundaries should not be changed by force. Jailonsky has constantly rejected the suggestion that Ukraine will leave its claim on Crimea Peninsula.
